Ultimate Spinach is the 1968 self-titled debut album by Ultimate Spinach. Work overtime by the "Bosstown Sound" soft and slightly aggressive atmospheres. The peculiarity of this work is that it seems a journey through the dark,where mysterious creatures dictate you the way. In this album there is a constant use of Farfisa organ, as indeed in many American psychedelic bands of the period, reminiscent of Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead. This finding is a psychedelic masterpiece containing tracks like "Ego Trip", composed under the influence of LSD, and the instrumental "Sacrifice of the Moon" that takes you somewhere else, the wonderful "(Ballad of the) Hip Death Goddess" sung by Barbara Hudson. Side two opens with "Reeling in Your Head" that defines the style of the complex and sophisticated Ultimate Spinach, description of nightmares and suffering of the leader Bruce-Douglas. The remarkable "Baroque # 1" which proposes inside "Section 43" by Country Joe and the Fish, and finally "Pamela", another piece almost instrumental. For me, a masterpiece!

La particolarità di questo lavoro è che sembra un viaggio tramite il buio, dove creature misteriose ti dettano il percorso. In questo album c'è un uso costante dell'organo Farfisa , come del resto in tanti gruppi psichedelici americani del periodo,che ricorda Jefferson Airplane e Grateful Dead. Questo reperto è un capolavoro psichedelico contenente tracce come "Ego Trip", composta sotto effetto di LSD; la strumentale "Sacrifice of the Moon" che ti porta da un altra parte, la meravigliosa "(Ballad of the) Hip Death Goddess" cantata da Barbara Hudson. La seconda facciata si apre con "Your Head in Reeling" che definisce lo stile complesso e ricercato degli Ultimate Spinach, descrizione degli incubi e delle sofferenze del leader Bruce-Douglas. La notevole "Baroque #1" che ripropone al suo interno "Section 43" di Country Joe and the Fish; infine "Pamela", altro pezzo pressochè strumentale. Per me un capolavoro!
