Frank Zappa - Hot Rats

10 November 2013 by

Hot Rats is the seventh album of American musician Frank Zappa published in the United States in 1969. Zappa was perpetually poised between rock, jazz, theater of the absurd and the most advanced music search, and in this album he can make it clear his disdain for the american conformism, and everything related to the contemporary society. First with the Mothers of Invention, and then with his solo albums he was able to make a unique contribution to the musical world, in fact in the world of musicians he was considered a king. Hot Rats focuses on instrumental jazz fusion compositions with long guitar solos, the music is very different from the first disc of Zappa with the Mothers, which included satirical comments mixed use of experimental music and sound montages. This was the first album of Frank Zappa to be recorded on a multitrack recorder to 16 tracks, and one of the first records ever to make use of this technology, which was then still in the prototype stage. The album is arranged everything from Zappa, who shows his unique style.Enjoy " Peaches And Regalia " perhaps his most famous song and appreciated by the fans, still reinterpreted by numerous bands !

For Italians:

Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica

Trout Mask Replica is the third album by Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band, released in June 1969. Incredible work, the emblem of free improvisation and more rampant monument to the genius of an artist. But, above all, a record that showed how the formal barriers of the "rock" could and should be broken. Listening to Trout Mask Replica is not simple. It 'a traumatic experience for all those who decide to approach the work of Don Van Vliet and his Magic Band. It is a work sprawling and surrealist, apparently without sense: the texts appear illogical, agreements contrast between them, the times appear to be random. It seems that all the musicians play, playing a different tune each other. Mask Replica proposes, without any pretense, a music to listen with another ear and other mental patterns. If you are a person who are looking for catchy music, Trout Mask Replica is not for you.

For Italians:

Amon Duul II - Phallus Dei

Phallus Dei was the first album by German band Amon Düül II. The album, mostly instrumental, sets a new standard for "black music", and remains as one of the most hellish orgies in the history of rock music. The entire album was played in a random and naive tone that pales in comparison with the austere and calculated approach of the British progressive rock. But this claim is contradicted on appeal: this is a town of hippies who offer more spontaneous approach to rock jamming. Texts address with irreverence and irrationality sacred themes, philosophical, zany, initiatic, fairytale, biblical, anti-biblical, satanic, social and psychedelic, alternating between German, English-like language and incomprehensible. A thousand contradictory elements, hot and dangerous reaction, as in a magic cauldron stirred by mad alchemists intent to evoke the devil. Certainly not to sell his soul, but, more likely, to make us party and maybe a nice jam session.

For Italians:

Gong - Flying Teapot

14 June 2013 by

Flying Teapot is an album by progressive rock band, Gong. It is the first of the trilogy The Radio Gnome Invisible, which will continue with the next Angel's Egg and You. This concept album is based on elements of the Gong mythology, present sporadically in previous works, which are inserted here for the first time in the totality of texts.

"Radio Gnome Invisible". The song of welcome to planet Gong bizarre fairy-tale begins with a mysterious introduction that soon dissolves into its joyous nature of the album, telepathic contact between the pot head pixies, messengers flying in teapots, and the hero Zero, personified by Allen , is established with alternating moments of hilarious mysticism, the famous refrain "... nirvana, banana, mañana ...", and other revelations about the nature of the planet, with the tools that weave wildly between frequent changes of pace and scenery. "Flying Teapot". Judged by many as the most artistically interesting piece on the album, opens with a dip in space driven by the synthesizer and the languid sighs of Gilli, and the journey into the new reality, while the pot head pixie explains how to interpret telepathic messages, passes between the planets jazz Malherbe and those psychedelic guitars to result in a growing global dominated by syncopated drums, with Zero being invited to drink the magical Tibetan tea. The musicians independently, taking in turn the main scene, but the sequences are linked together with harmony and originality."Pot Head Pixies". The goblins appear to Zero with a funny text accompanied by a properly brilliant music and stunning, notify him that they are crazy freaks like him and to keep in touch with them."The Octave Doctors & The Crystal Machine. Dedication to the sacred" Doctors of the Eighth ", the powerful beings that rule the universe through music, instrumental piece written by Blake, nicknamed moonweed (grass moon), and conducted mainly by his synthesizer . This piece is reminiscent of "Welcome to the Machine", that Pink Floyd would have made two years later."Zero The Hero & The Witch's Spell". This long suite opens with the emphatic declaration of love Zero, which flows more air jazz disk, in which the inspired sax Malherbe communicates with excellent percussion Houari. In the course of the piece the Good Witch, played by Smyth with his "space whispers," performs a spell to Zero, making him a slave to his will."Witch's Song / I Am Your Pussy". The closing track is connected to the previous one, and is based fundamentally on the capabilities of the bewitching witch, who claims to reciprocate the love of Zero in the most classic and attractive style Gong: an astonishing rate and enthralling ripping more than a smile to the listener. The album closes with Zero celebrating the love for each other by offering the witch fried fish and chips.
